Was ist die NIE-Nummer eigentlich?
Korrekter Weise handelt es sich um die N.I.E. oder ausgeschrieben Número de Identificación de Extranjero.
In Spanien verfolgt man seit Jahren, ähnlich wie die USA oder Schweden, den Weg, dass jeder Bürger eine eindeutige Identifikation erhält. Dies ist für die Spanier selbst Ihre DNI (Documento nacional de identidad). Diese gilt von Geburt an und dient zur Identifikation nicht nur auf den Ausweisen sondern auch bei der Steuer oder Sozialversicherung. Ausländer die in Spanien tätig werden wollen benötigen eben genauso eine eindeutig Identifikations-Nummer.
Auch alle anderen Behördengänge sind sehr anstrengend und werden von uns erledigt. Zoll, Sozialversicherung, Finanzamt , Polizei (Residenz) und so weiter.

Die Verankerung im Grundgesetz auf das Recht und die Pflicht zur Sozialversicherung wie man es aus Deutschland kennt, gibt es in Spanien nicht.
Die spanische Sozial- und Krankenversicherung ( La Seguridad Social ) ist eine staatliche Einrichtung. Krankenkassen, die wie in Deutschland um die Gunst der Beitragszahler buhlen sind in Spanien unbekannt. Der Versicherungschutz beginnt mit dem Tag der Aufnahme einer Arbeit, eines Studiums oder eines Lehrgangs. Dabei wird vorausgesetzt dass es sich bei Beginn einer Tätigkeit nicht um Selbstständigkeit irgendwelcher Art handelt.
Die Versichertenkarte ( La Tarjeta de la Seguridad Social ) werden Sie dann auch erhalten.
Ergänzen kann man diesen Schutz mit privaten Versicherungen, die in der Regel auch weltweiten Schutz bieten.
